February 05, 2010
THIS THURSDAY
First meeting for Gus Macker 2010 will be conducted this Thursday (2/4) evening at the Knights of Columbus with a 5:15 p.m. start. All members are invited to attend. I believe we are still looking for an Exchangite to assist Chairman Doug Greenwell this year and lead the charge next year. Please see Doug or President Kevin Curran if you are interested.
THIS FRIDAY
We’ll welcome our good friend, Quincy native, and Baseball Hall of Famer, Rick Hummel to the podium. As most of you know, Rick will provide insight into the upcoming Major League Baseball season, especially highlighting the Cardinals and Cubs, before opening it up for all types of sports questions. Always a good time and truly one of the best meetings of the year. Please bring a guest and join us for this fun event. (You are encouraged to get to ABVI a bit earlier than normal this Friday.)
FRIDAY LAST
In addition to being a darn good football official, Ric Hinkamper is a pretty good story teller. Ric did just that for us last week. Some great stories and outstanding insight into the world of NCAA Division I football. Good stuff! Thanks, Ric.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“Go ahead and give me a technical!” Wasn’t at the Exchange Club meeting that I heard that last week but at a ball game I was officiating in Macomb. Of course, I obliged. First one of the season.
THIS & THAT
Rev. Jim Totsch with the prayer and Jerry Ebbing leading the pledge… Ted Awerkamp enjoying his $440 meal and Russ Gengenbacher making his second visit in the past three Fridays… Ric Hinkamper’s father (and Golden Deeds recipient), Ray Hinkamper, along with Jim Heckenkamp joining us as guests… First Vice President Kent Anderson standing in for President Kevin (who along with Doug Greenwell were attending a Macker event out of town). Kent told us about thank you letters received from Special Olympics and Susan Feld… Congratulations to Jeff Dorsey on the birth of his third grandchild, Josiah Rogers, born January 16th. Both Josiah, and Mom, Jennifer, are doing well. Jeff claims the Yankee outfield for 2030 is now set… Last chance to sign up for the February 11th Surf N’ Turf will be this week… Second Vice President Steve Green administrating the 50/50 drawing. For the second week in a roll, Rich Howell won. Again, not sure if it was just Rich or the entire table (Elvin Townsend, Dick Wentura, Fred Lauder, Mike Disseler, Charlie Ledbetter, and Bill Barry). Either way, Rich pulled the wrong card (two of clubs) and now the pot grows. Have to be nearing the $400 mark. As mentioned, Rich won for the second week in a roll and then left early for approximately the 1,000th meeting in a roll… Bruce Broemmel twisting tails with help from Sonny Christner… That's all for now, 'til next time, may God’s love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
