THIS FRIDAY

Another busy Friday for the Quincy Exchange Club. We’ll recognize our Youth of the Month and a few Character Champions before Greg Davis, of Madison-Davis Bicycle Shop, takes to the podium to discuss “Live Local”. Live Local is a collaborative initiative to educate and promote the importance of independently owned business to the local community. (Learn more about this group at their website: www.livelocalquincy.org.) An unintentional but interesting twist to last week’s program about supercenters. Please join us.

FRIDAY LAST

Good to have Pat Hibbeler with us. Pat told us about an interesting look he took at the communities of Lake St. Louis, MO and Jefferson County, WI and how each accepted (or not) a Wal-Mart Supercenter into their area. This was the subject of the dissertation he wrote while obtaining his Doctorate in Business Administration Organization Theory from Saint Ambrose University. Obviously a very detailed matter that Pat could only scratch the surface on with us. A unique subject and well received. Tim Wiewel with the introduction of his neighbor and close friend.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Thank you, Exchangites, for donating $435 to the Haitian earthquake relief cause. The club will match that figure and our total donation will be $870.” President Kevin Curran made that announcement at the end of the meeting. A most generous response from the Quincy Exchange Club. Thank you, men, and God Bless the Haitian people who have endured unfathomable conditions for over a week now.

THIS & THAT

Rev. Jim Totsch with the prayer and Charlie Ledbetter leading the pledge… Nathan Fritts the guest of his father, Ron, and Adam Peters the guest of his father, Steve… Congratulations to Nathan who was recently named Airman of the Year for the 932nd Airlift Wing. We are proud of you! I guess greatness skips every other generation in the Fritts family… Mike Verzino the guest of President Kevin… Good to see Chad Argabright and my brother, Russ, back amongst us. Come back again, men… Our good friend John Ortwerth entered the Illinois Veterans Home last week. He’s in the Schapers B unit if you are interested in visiting. Physically, John looks great… The funds collected for the Haitian Earthquake Relief have been donated to the group at Blessed Sacrament Church who has been making mission trips to the country for the last several years. Steve Peters’ parents are heavily involved in that effort… Jared Haugh working on behalf of the YMCA’s Strong Kids program. He is looking for a few good men to assist with the worthy project. If interested, please contact him… 1st Reading on Travis Brown sponsored by John Johannes. Travis is the executive director of the Historic Quincy Business District… The “Walking Wounded” list of the Quincy Exchange Club continues to grow. Please keep Jim Benz, Curt Moore, and Max Johnson in your prayers as all three are on the mend… Frank Hays had the right ticket but picked the wrong card (nine of diamonds). Pot grows. The next winner will have a shot at $380… Bruce Broemmel collected our Haitian Relief effort and twisted tails for the orphans and widows fund… Perhaps time to once again remind Exchangites to silence cell phones – before they go off during the middle of the meeting. See you Friday for Quincy’s Finest Hour… That's all for now, 'til next time, may God’s love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
