THIS FRIDAY

We’ll welcome the students, teachers, and aides of the Quincy Public School’s Hearing Impaired Program. Believe it or not, this is our 45th Annual Hearing Impaired Christmas Party. As is our usual protocol for this day, we’ll present the Hearing Impaired Program with a little gift, be treated to a Christmas skit, and then Santa Claus will visit the students. Always a great program so plan on joining us!

THIS FRIDAY EVENING

You are invited to join the crew of volunteers assisting with the GIVEAKIDACHANCE Christmas Party on Friday evening. This is a pretty laid-back event. The dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. with a visit from the Jolly Old Man himself a bit after 7:00 p.m. Entire event over just before or after 8:00 p.m. If you can make it, be there around 6:15 p.m. Spouses welcome to volunteer. By the way, good eats for all those assisting! See Chairman Charlie Ledbetter for more information.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“The Kansas City Barbecue Society approved our application for the 2010 Smoke on the River, to be held September 9 & 10, 2010.” Smoke on the River Chairman Mel Dillman recently announced this great tidbit of information. I asked Mel to provide a quick recap on the 2009 Smoke on the River event and this was his response, “We had 39 contestants in 2009, up from 23 in 2008. The event cleared approximately $7,000.” What a great event and our thanks to Mel and all the men who made it work.

THIS & THAT

In this season of Thanksgiving it is nice to know that one of our own is giving back to the Community. Dan Veihl and his company, The Butcher Block, will process, grind and package more than 10,000 pounds of deer meat for the area's food pantries. Hunters donate deer killed during the bow and gun seasons and The Butcher Block processes them through a program funded by the State of Illinois and local charities. Dan accepts a significant discount from the normal processing fee. Without the efforts of Exchangites such as Dan, many food pantries would fall far short of providing the necessary protein for struggling area families. Thank you to Dan and the crew at the Butcher Block... My thanks to Mel Dilman for sharing that great news… Congratulations to Rev. Ron Fritts on the word that his flock, the Unity Spiritual Life Center, has a new home and is adding new ministry programs. Congratulations, Ron… If you have news to share about yourself (such as a promotion, new job, or expanded business) or your family (such as the addition of a child or grandchild, or a death in the family), please let me know about it so I can share with our fellow Exchangites. Please do not assume I have heard or read it somewhere else – it is no easy task trying to keep up with the activities of 120 some men… That's all for now, 'til next time, may God’s love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
