THIS FRIDAY
On the heels of Veterans Day, we’ll take time to recognize and thank our Veterans this Friday. Brigadier General (select) Scott Thoele (pronounced Tay-lee) will be our guest speaker for the special day. Bring a veteran and enjoy the day. FYI – we have 18 veterans in our club, I’ll name them all next week.
FRIDAY LAST
Good to have Illinois Department of Transportation Deputy Director of Highways Roger Driskell with us. Roger spoke about the Department’s multi-year program, primarily in the District 6 area which includes Quincy. He also discussed the America Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 and Illinois Jobs Now program and the projects created by the federal and state programs. Dave Reese with a little stand up routine of his own before the introduction.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“All these engineers here and not one choo-choo.” Skip Reuter strikes again. Skip, of course, referring to the fact that we had nearly a dozen engineers with us last week.
THIS & THAT
Mayor John Spring with the LONG prayer and Gary Hillebrenner leading the pledge… Lots of guests – Jeffery Conte (w/ father-in-law Gary Peters), Tim Sedovic (w/ Chuck Venvertloh), Marty Wagner (w/ Brian Koch), Dick Klusmeyer and Pat Poepping (w/ Mike McLaughlin), Steve Wavering and Steve Bange (w/ Cullan Duke), and Jeff Steinkamp (w/ Mayor John Spring)… Welcome back John Ballance… JWCC President Tom Klincar providing a Trailblazer basketball infomercial… It didn’t make the Quote of the Week but I did love President Kevin Curran’s “GIVEAKIDACHANCETOWAVEAFLAG” line. President Kevin was telling us about the GIVEAKIDACHANCE Christmas Party when he inadvertently combined it with the GIVEAKIDAFLAGTOWAVE… It is not too early to sign up for the Special Olympics Basketball Tournament that will be conducted on January 2nd. Believe it or not, we only have five meetings left in 2009 after this Friday… Any member who has not received their membership booklet yet should see President Kevin or Dennis Koch… That lucky son-of-a-gun John Ballance shows up to his first meeting in sometime and wins the 50/50. BUT, he picked the wrong card (king of clubs) so the pot grows. Should be near $250 next time out… Jeff Dorsey twisting tails and telling us about a great way to spend (or not) $10,000… Speaking of the Big Dog, my thanks to him for co-hosting the Veterans Parade last Saturday. We tend to give Jeff a lot of heck but he is a rock for this club and our community… Also need to give a shout-out to all the good men who carried our flag during the parade… A sincere thank you to all veterans inside and out of our club. Your sacrifices are appreciated and will never be forgotten… That's all for now, 'til next time, may God’s love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
