THIS FRIDAY
Please join us for the inaugural Firefighter of the Year Award presentation this Friday. This is a new program not only for our club, but for our entire community. This is something we should all be excited about and we thank the men (I’ll name the committee in full next week but know that Carlos Fernandez is the chairman) who took President Kevin Curran’s idea and made it a reality. We will get started a bit earlier this week so please try to adjust your schedule accordingly.
FRIDAY LAST
An outstanding program by Dr. Lenny Biallas on Vietnam Today. Lenny spent March 2009 in Vietnam, teaching English at a junior college outside Hanoi. Lenny showed some great photos and told us some interesting facts. Such as Vietnam is approximately the size of Illinois and Iowa combined. Together the two American states have a population of 20 million while Vietnam has 83 million people! Nice tribute to our Vietnam Veterans as well as all other Veterans by Lenny. Program Chairman Gary Peters with a little stand-up (as good as ever) and the introduction.
YOUTH OF THE MONTH
Congratulations Quincy High School senior Christine Goehl! Christine was named our October Youth of the Month. Christine is a great young lady who excels in and the out of the classroom. She is vice-president of or senior class, a member of the Honor Society, pitches for the softball team, and works at Hy-Vee among many other activities. She is the daughter of Phil and Karen – and some undisclosed relation to our Russ Goehl. QHS Director of Guidance Mike Llewellyn with the introduction. Also joining us for the day were QHS Principal Danielle Edgar and Quincy Superintendent of Schools Lonny Lemon. Congratulations, Christine!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“And three of them were on our side!” Not even sure who gets credit for this quote but it came right after Dr. Lenny Biallas told the club we had five Vietnam Veterans with us during the program. There were so many noteworthy quotes flying last week I couldn’t keep up with them. (I wrote several down but this was the only one I could actually decipher later…)
THIS & THAT
Sorry about the late Exchangite this week, boys. Couldn’t be helped… Jim Benz with the prayer – requesting an “attitude of gratitude in the River City” and Jim Lierly leading the pledge… Charlie Bach the guest of Sonny Christner and Rick Hammond the guest of Jim Schlepphorst… Please keep Gil Feld in your thoughts and prayers this week as Gil is in the hospital battling pneumonia and the H1N1 flu. I don’t know Gil as well as many other club members but from my advantage point, he is one tough SOB. He beats cancer and then just for the heck of it, decides to whip pneumonia and the H1N1! Hang in there, Gil… Jeff Dorsey shed a little light on the November 15th event at Quincy University when our good friend John Ortwerth will be honored. Apparently the Hawks will be sponsoring an Alzheimer’s event during their 3:00 p.m. game and John will be recognized at half-time. A great showing by fellow Exchangites would certainly be appropriate… Bill Barry won the 50/50 but picked the wrong card (ten of hearts) so the pot grows. $212 last week… Bruce Broemmel twisting tails… That's all for now, 'til next time, may God’s love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
