ROAD TRIP THIS FRIDAY
All American Park (located just a bit north of Cedar Street on the Bonansinga Drive). We’ll be treated to a demonstration by the Quincy Ski Club. Always a fun trip and we will NOT be eating catfish.
FRIDAY LAST
Travis Brown, new Executive Director of the Historic Quincy Business District was kind enough to visit us. Travis mentioned that there were 546 businesses in the HQBD’s 72 square blocks and that the Blues in the District is the largest event draw to the downtown area. He also thanked the great volunteer base led by the Design Committee that works to refurbish the properties and the Business Impact Team that helps create business opportunities and assists new businesses. The HQBD also has a new web site of www.downtownquincy.com.

SMOKE ON THE RIVER
Mel addressed the club with another plea to please sell tickets for the BBQ Grill drawing especially after being down a $2500 in sponsors from last year. We will also need help in installing the tents on the property on Thursday, September 10th at 5pm. Work sign up sheets were on tables Friday. The bands for the Smoke on the River are set. Friday it is Raised on Radio from 8 to Midnight. Saturday it is Rich Berry (an acoustical one man band) from Kansas City from 3 to 6, followed by The Cheeseburgers from 6 to 9 and Blue Eyed Soul from 9 to 12:30.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
Two quotes this week. Kevin Curran after a somewhat lengthy prayer from Reverand Ron Fritts uttering two words that said it all….”real touching”. Then there was Mel Dillman’s
comment after Bruce Brummel’s microphone failed that “there must be a short in it”. Enough already. Let’s get a 6’10” guy in the club to abuse.
THIS & THAT
As mentioned Ron Fritts handled the prayer, Joel Koch the pledge and Bruce Broemmel tail twisted. President Kevin read a resignation letter from Gil Feld which was promptly rejected by the brethren in hopes he will be back with us when his health returns. The club experienced another award winning induction ceremony with Jonathon Tuttle being accepted by the club and sponsored by Dave Rees (not Reese). Jonathon is in the insurance business at Cason, Huff and Schleuter. Worth mentioning again, Sonny and Rita Christner celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary last Wednesday and Bill Barry turned a young 82 last week. Also, in case you were not aware of it, barb Tripp has taken the time to reflect on John’s passing on the site that John formerly wrote. You can read it at www.updownaroundtown.com. Having filled in for Rick this week, I, the Big Dog, have a new appreciation for what he does each and every week. Sell those tickets!!! See you at All America Park next Friday.
