MACKER MEETING THURSDAY NIGHT
All members welcome (and encouraged) to attend – 5:15 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus.
THIS FRIDAY
We’ll start early this week so try to be there before Noon. An interesting tandem will make up our program. First, we’ll officially kick off Gus Macker 2009 with a visit from Scott McNeal. As is tradition, we’ll hear from Scott and introduce our major sponsors. Then, in a strange departure (from our typical programs), Secretary of State Jesse White will take the podium. Secretary White will be in town on other business and thanks to the efforts of Adams County Sheriff Brent Fisher, he will join us for a few minutes. We’ll have to see how President Art Awerkamp weaves these two together!
FRIDAY LAST
A Quincy history lesson by Reg Ankrom. Reg covered a broad spectrum of Quincy history but spoke in depth about the fascinating Stephen A. Douglas. Mr. Douglas left an impressive legacy – especially when you consider he died at the young age of 48. Always a pleasure to have the good Mr. Ankrom (who is 600 some pages into a book he is writing on Stephen A. Douglas) with us. Paul Niemann with the introduction.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“So this is Quincy’s Finest Hour?” A sarcastic Reg Ankrom as photos of several (infamous) Exchangites flashed across the screen on a Power Point presentation. Reg made his comment just as Skip Rueter’s photo (lager than the rest) flashed front and center. Very good, Reg!
THIS & THAT
Jared Haugh with the prayer and Sonny Christner leading the pledge… President Art telling us about thank you notes from the Quincy Society of Fine Arts, Big Brother/Big Sister program, Camp Callahan, and the Alzheimer’s Association… Is it me or are the programs on history (be it Quincy, Lincoln, steamboats, or something else) becoming popular among the boys? I have enjoyed them… “The boys…” that’s the way my predecessor John Tripp use to put it… Reg Ankrom was one of the few speakers (or Exchangites for that matter) to tame Skip Rueter during a meeting… Bruce Broemmel twisting tails – with the help of Sonny Christner… Not sure who the exact winner was but the table of Rich Howell, Hal Broadwater, Charlie Ledbetter, Eric Thomas, and Jim Lierly won the 50/50 but picked the wrong card (jack of diamonds). Pot grows! ($555 last week)… Remember we are starting early this week and not meeting the following week… Please note that we have back to back road trips on the last Friday in April and the first one in May. On April 24th we’ll visit Curtis Creek Retirement Center (also known as Max’s house) to dedicate a new Freedom Shrine… That's all for now, 'til next time, may God’s love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
