PRESIDENT KEVIN CURRAN

Running short on time so Kevin didn’t get to tell us much about his plans for the year but did mention one thing of interest – his plans to add the “Fireman of the Year” award to our list of programs. A great plan! President Kevin and new Fire Chief, Joe Henning to work out the details. Perhaps the first such program during Fire Prevention month, which is October. We look forward to a great year with President Kevin at the wheel.

IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT ART AWERKAMP

Congratulations to now Immediate Past President Art Awerkamp on a fabulous year. As Art mentioned, it is easy to underestimate all we do within a 12 month period until you start looking at the list. This club is not just about Gus Macker, it is one piece of the puzzle and there are literally dozens of pieces in the Quincy Exchange Club puzzle. The reason we have such a strong group and are able to do so many good things in our community is because year after year, we have strong leadership. We thank and salute you, Art Awerkamp, for a job well done! (Now sit back and enjoy watching someone else do it!)

JOHN TRIPP DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

Congratulations to John Tripp’s good friend Jeff Dorsey on being named the inaugural winner of this special award. This award is not about service during one or two events or even one or two years, it recognizes an Exchangite who has served our club many times over many years in many ways – like John Tripp did. Jeff is a most worthy recipient. I guarantee that John is shaking his head in approval. Again, congratulations, Jeff!

OUR LOCATION

As you must know by now, Tony’s Old Place and the East Room (810 Hampshire) has closed its doors for good as of June 30th. The closure allows Mark Aleman and his staff to concentrate their efforts at Tony’s Too in the new Holiday Inn. What does this mean for us? Well, soon, we’ll have to find a new meeting location BUT, until you read/hear different, Mark will allow us to continue to use the East Room. (Our meals will be catered.) Obviously no meeting this Friday and as of this writing, our 7/10 meeting will be in the East Room. Hopefully by then, we’ll be able to announce a new plan. House Chairman Mel Dillman is putting together a small committee to explore options for a new site. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact Mel immediately.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“I just knew that when I joined this club that someday I would become president. I know my dad would be very proud.” Well said and indeed the truth spoken by Immediate Past President Art Awerkamp.

THIS & THAT

Mayor John Spring with the prayer and Treasurer Chris Parker leading the pledge… Ron Fritz has been reinstated to the club. For those of you who did not know, Ron is a past president. Welcome back, Ron… Now Immediate Past President Art Awerkamp reading a nice thank you note from Barb Tripp… There will most definitely be a bulletin next week and in it I will expand upon two very important issues – Smoke on the River and our Character Champions program that will be honored at the national convention as the National Youth Service Project of the Year. How cool is that? Congratulations to all the men who have made this program a great one but especially, you, Jim Benz… Rich Howell won the 50/50, AGAIN, but picked the wrong card (eight of spades). Pot grows... Remember, NO MEETING this Friday… That's all for now, 'til next time, may God’s love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
