THIS FRIDAY

Should be a good one with several important items on the agenda. Not necessarily in this order but we will present two awards – the John Tripp Distinguished Service Award and the Exchangite of the Year Award, we’ll bid farewell to the President Art Awerkamp administration and welcome the President Kevin Curran administration with the induction of officers (done by who else but Max Johnson?), and then Mel Dillman will speak to us about plans for the 2009 Smoke on the River. Please join us.

FRIDAY LAST

Good to have the interim director of the Quincy Public Library, Nancy Dolan, with us. Nancy told us about the many services (in-house and through outreach) the library offers – to kids of all ages. The library logged nearly 350,000 visits last year alone! Mayor John Spring with the introduction.

SO PROUDLY WE HAIL

Congratulations to Mr. Robert “Bob” Ericson for being presented with the So Proudly We Hail Award. Bob, a Korean War Veteran, was recognized for the beautiful flag display he maintains at his home. This award is part of the Exchange Club’s Americanism Program. (The other programs are Youth Activities, Community Service, and Prevention of Child Abuse.) In attendance with Bob was his daughter, Debbie Nauert, Son, Mike, and great grandson, Tate.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“How do you keep them from, um, looking, um, at the ‘bad stuff’ on the computers?” Another gem of a question from Rich Lavery. Your questions are the best, Rich! (Of course this one doesn’t top the Humane Society question but I like it nonetheless.) Rich wanted to know how Nancy and her staff prevented visitors from viewing – what I believe his thought process was, pornography. Nancy kindly informed us they had filters that prevented such improper activities. Many Exchangites groaned with disappointment…

THIS & THAT

Dr. Len Biallas with the prayer and Steve Labs leading the pledge… Mike Irvine, the guest of Uncle Bob Hays and Grandpa Frank Hays… Hats off to Dan Veihl and his staff for a great meal at the family picnic last week. Neat set up Dan used to cook and serve. The picnic was well attended. Couldn’t have asked for better weather. How nice was it to see Barb Trip and the kids/grandkids? What a treat… Apparently I messed up the price of the package deal on the hat and shirt. It is $30 if you want both. (Shirt alone is $25 and hat alone is $7.50.) I have a hard time keeping it all straight… Dick Wentura won the 50/50 but picked the wrong card (nine of clubs). Pot grows. Should be near $900 this week. That would be a sweet win… I had hoped to expand upon the plan to cut our mailing list this week but details are still being worked out… Remember, NO MEETING on Friday, July 3rd… That's all for now, 'til next time, may God’s love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
