THIS FRIDAY

Richard Heinie from Heinie Specialty Products will join us. Richard has one of those successful businesses in Quincy that few Quincyans know anything about yet they do business all over the world. Richard started in the ‘70s making custom built pistols. Some thirty years later, his business has evolved to an aftermarket line of pistol sights. Richard designs all the sights. Law enforcement, military, and individuals concerned with personal defense are his main clients. Also joining us will be Richard’s right hand person, Sara Davis.

FRIDAY LAST

A beautiful day at the old ball park! Our thanks Rob Ebbing for hosting us and the good folks at Hy-Vee for feeding us. It was good! Q.U. Stadium, built in 1939 as part of the WPA Program, shows a little age here and there but overall, looks great. The Quincy Gems are off to a 2-2 start. They host the Hannibal Cavemen on Tuesday night. The Gems have a 54 game schedule in the Prospect League. Rob also told us about plans to have a Quincy Baseball Museum. They are looking for collection items so let Rob know if you or someone you know has anything of significance from the Quincy Cubs, Rivermen, or Gems. Good crowd and a good program. (By the way, we will have a family night at the Gems game on Tuesday, July 21st. Free Admission, food, and drinks for the family on the evening. More details in the weeks ahead.)

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“We usually have someone honest draw the winning ticket but since Ron Fritz is a preacher and a guest, we’ll ask him.” 1st Vice President Kevin Curran not sounding very convincing as he asked Ron to draw the winning raffle ticket.

FAMILY PICNIC & FLAG DAY CONCERT

You and your family are invited to join us at the Madison Park Shelter on Wednesday, June 17th (yes, that's next week already) at 5:30 p.m. for the fourth annual Family Picnic & Flag Day Concert. We'll start things off with a good old fashioned cook-out. After supper, we'll hand out flags at the Quincy Park Band's concert (which starts at 6:30 p.m.) just a little east of the shelter. FREE SHAVED ICE! This is a very laid-back and relaxed event - you don't need to bring anything for the meal. Grab the wife and kids and join us! (After we hand out flags, stay for the concert - bring a lawn chair or blanket.)

THIS & THAT

Guest Rev. Ron Fritz with the prayer (and later, a joke for us) and President Art Awerkamp leading the pledge… Nice touch by President Art to remember the 65th anniversary of D-Day. In my humble opinion, outside of the birth and death of Jesus, perhaps the most significant event in world history. What those men did on that day should never be forgot or underestimated. Simply incredible… Speaking of WWII, WWII Navy Veteran Slim Sommerville has resigned from the club. As noted last week, Slim is doing better but his health has prevented him from attending the last several years. Great story about Slim told by Gary Peters regarding Gary’s first visit to the club. Best wishes, Slim… President Art telling us about thank you letters from the Jackson/Lincoln Pool ($250 donation) and the Salvation Army (buns and miscellaneous food items left over from Macker)… Please note that we will NOT have a meeting on Friday, July 3rd. It’ll be here before you know it… We have several unique $27.00 gift cards to Kohls if you are interested. What makes the cards unique is that you can pick out a pair of shoes (three choices) at no additional cost with the cards. All three choices have a value greater than $27.00. See Dave Rees or Kevin Curran if you are interested… John Johannes won the 50/50 but picked the wrong card (queen of spades). The pot is quickly approaching the $1,000 mark. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen it that high… An impressive list of anniversaries this week – 37th, 32nd, 22nd, 35th, 35th, 53rd, and 30th. Wow… Can you believe only 2.5 meetings left (and no more board meetings) in the President Awerkamp Administration? Where has the year gone… That's all for now, 'til next time, may God’s love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK

President Art modeling the new Exchangite shirt and hat. Shirt goes for $25.00, and the hat for $7.50. Purchase them together for $25.00. I believe District President Dennis Koch is the contact for the shirts and hats.
