THIS FRIDAY
Two great Exchange Club programs will fill the program slot. First, we’ll present the Bud Willar Award and then Character of Champions will take center stage. The Bud Willar Award, named after a deceased Exchangite who did MUCH in our community, is awarded each year to a high school senior who has overcome substantial obstacles and succeeded. (As previously noted on several Fridays, President Art Awerkamp is a past recipient of this award – 25 years ago this spring.) Should be a great day, hope to see your smiling face in attendance!
COURT TAPING THIS SUNDAY MORNING
Macker Court taping will take place this Sunday morning (5/17). Meet at Washington Park at 8:00 a.m. Kirk Frageman (617-5240) says he has a pretty good crew lined up but could use another man or two. Give him a call if you’re that man.
FRIDAY LAST
Good to be back in the East Room and even better to recognize one of our own. Kevin Curran was presented with the 57th Annual Book of Golden Deeds. Kevin volunteers his time and talents – literally – everywhere in Quincy. He is currently or has been involved in the United Way of Adams County, Quincy Regional Crimestoppers, Society of the Fine Arts, Quincy Civic Center Authority Board, Quincy University’s Mart Heinen Club, and many more not listed. Kevin was the man with the plan who brought Special Olympics back to the Quincy Exchange Club. Oh yeah, did I mention he, along with friend and business partner Dave Rees, have served as Head Busters for Gus Macker for the past 9 years? Truly dedicated and truly worthy of this most honorable award. Joining Kevin for the day was his wife, Janet, and children; Kelly, Brian, and Katie. Congratulations, Kevin. Thank you for all you do!
MACKER NEWS
Gus Macker is NEXT weekend! If my sources are correct, team count is near 575. (Which is down a bit from last year but still a very reputable number.) Time is running out to get those court sponsors and to sign up Gus Busters. If you can help with either or anything in between, please let Co-Chairmen Steve Green or Doug Greenwell know. Surely some type of sign up sheets will be on the tables this Friday. Sign one if you don’t already have a job on the important weekend!
