THIS FRIDAY

Back in the East Room at Tony’s, we’ll present our own Kevin Curran with the 57th Annual Book of Golden Deeds. This is truly one of our best programs and I encourage every Exchangite to be in attendance. We’ll start early so plan on an 11:45 arrival time if at all possible. Jared Haugh will deliver the keynote address and Gary Peters will emcee the event. (So be prepared to laugh and be entertained!) Hats off to Golden Deeds Chairman Randy Frese and his committee for their outstanding selection and their preparation. More on Kevin and his good work in our community next week.

FRIDAY LAST

We closed out our two week road trip at Tony’s Too where we heard from Charles Bell, Entrepreneurship Center, and Dick Klusmeyer, County Engineer, about the Mid America Intermodal Port Authority. Charles told us about the purpose and goal of the port while Dick updated us on the physical location of the site. Running the Power Point presentation was Deborah Hyde and Cullan Duke did the introduction.

YOUTH OF THE YEAR

Congratulations, to Quincy High School senior Erin Sieck. Out of our six Youths of the Month, Erin was selected as our Youth of the Year and she will now represent our club at the district level. Erin is the daughter of Dr. Eric and Debbie Sieck. She has a 4.35 on a 4.00 scale. She has participated on the tennis, softball, and math teams, student council, and recently made a humanitarian trip to Honduras. A very impressive young lady to say the least. Dr. Len Biallas with the introduction. Also joining us was retiring QHS Principal Terry Ellerman. (Best wishes, Terry!)

MACKER NEWS

Gus Macker just two weeks from this weekend. Lots to still be done. Court taping will take place on Sunday morning, May 17th. Meet at Washington Park at 8:00 a.m. 25 Exchangites make this a breeze. Please see or call Kirk Frageman (617-2540) if you plan on helping or have questions. Head Busters Kevin Curran and Dave Rees report that we only have 38 busters signed up. Kevin projects we’ll need 110. How about you or someone you know? It can be an exhausting weekend (no doubt about it) but for someone who develops a positive relationship with the players and parents on their court, it is a very gratifying experience – for you and them. If you haven’t already, please follow up with the businesses you were asked to contact about court sponsorship. As noted in this space previously, this is where we make our money on Macker. See Vic Welper if you have any questions.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Get that thing out of her face!” Your humble editor’s comment (before thinking) as Kevin Curran shoved the microphone in the face of a young lady he had asked to draw the winning 50/50 ticket. It just came out naturally as I watched her yank her head away in fear. No other comment necessary.

THIS & THAT

Yours truly giving the blessing and Courtney Hageman leading the pledge (with no flag in sight)… Great attendance for a road trip… Former Exchangite (and past president to boot), Norman Huseman, the guest of Dick Wentura and Lynn Hollis with brother-in-law, Dr. Len Biallas… REMEMBER we’ll start a bit early this Friday and you will have to enter from the east door… Our thanks to Website Guru Courtney Hageman on the “new and improved” club website. Lots of good stuff on it if you have visited lately. Address is www.quincyexchangeclub.org... All officers, board members, and interested Exchangites are invited to attend the May Board Meeting next Monday (5/11). 11:45 at The Pier… A big thank you to Dave Poland, chairman of the GIVEAKIDAFLAGTOWAVE committee, and all the Exchangites (and their children/grandchildren) who showed up to hand out thousands of flags down the Dogwood parade route. What a magnificent day it truly was… Next time we’ll hand out flags will be during the Park Band’s Flag Day Concert in Madison Park on June 17th. The Park Band will perform at 6:30 but we’ll meet at 5:00ish for a family picnic in the shelter house. Great night to treat the wife and kids on the Exchange Club… Bruce Broemmel twisting tails with help from Bill Stalder… Immediate Past President Jeff Dorsey won the 50/50 but picked the wrong card (ace of diamonds). Pot grows. Should be over $650 when we resume in a couple weeks (doubt we’ll have time this week)… That's all for now, 'til next time, may God’s love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
