MACKER MEETING THURSDAY EVENING (4/30)

All members are invited to attend the next Macker meeting – this Thursday evening, April 30th, at the Knights of Columbus. 5:15 p.m. start.

ROAD TRIP THIS FRIDAY

We are on the road for the second time in as many weeks. This time we’ll hang our hats at Tony’s Too in the new Holiday Inn (4821 Oak Street). Our speaker will be Jim Mentesti, President of the Great River Economic Development Foundation (GREDF). Jim will be on hand to speak about the services GREDF provides in our community and what is on the horizon. Perhaps a fitting time for an update on the port authority progress.

GIVEAKIDAFLAGTOWAVE THIS SATURDAY

We’ll meet at 24th & Maine at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday (5/2) to pass out flags during the Dogwood Parade. (Parade starts at 9:30 a.m.) Kids and grandkids are welcome to join us. If you have never done this, I encourage you to do so – it is fun to see how excited so many folks (not just the kids) get over our little flags.

FRIDAY LAST

We dedicated a new Freedom Shrine at the Curtis Creek Retirement Center. Life Member John Tripp did the honors for us. Always a great thing when John speaks to and for us. He is just good – no other way to put it. We congratulate our special Exchangite for the day, Max Johnson, on the occasion. As you know, Max resides at Curtis Creek and it was under his guidance this Freedom Shrine became a reality. Good stuff.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

No quote but I understand instead of presenting Max with a housewarming gift of wine on the occasion of our visit to his home, President Art Awerkamp presented him with a bottle of prune juice. Funny stuff. Thank you, Charlie Ledbetter, for the great idea/gift!

THIS & THAT

Sorry I has to miss the dedication of the new Freedom Shrine last week. Just too darn many irons in the fire… What disappoints me the most is that I missed the appearance of Mr. John Tripp… Consider this another plug – especially to you new Exchangites – to help pass out flags during the Dogwood Parade. If you have kids or grandkids that are old enough to walk and pass them out, bring them. They will love it! If they are not old enough, bring them in a wagon and walk with us anyway… On Thursday the Golden Deeds Committee will surprise our 57th recipient of the award with the news of their selection. You’ll find out who the winner is on Friday. We have another VERY WORTHY recipient. That I assure you. When we resume back in the East Room on May 8th, it will be for the Book of Golden Deeds. Jared Haugh will deliver the keynote address… That's all for now, 'til next time, may God’s love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK

A couple photos from the Freedom Shrine dedication at Curtis Creek. One shows the shrine itself and the other Max Johnson with his housewarming gift. My thanks to President Art and his camera phone for the photos.
