THIS FRIDAY:
SURF ‘n TURF:
For those of you planning on attending the 1/29 Surf ‘n Turf, wish to eat lobster, and have not signed up yet, you need to call Tim Wiewel immediately. Tim will be picking up the lobsters in the St. Louis area within the next few days and needs to have the correct count. No guarantee of lobster after this week – if you haven’t signed up or called Tim… Speaking of the event, $40 takes you all the way – appetizers, beer or soda, and the great meal (prime rib and the above mentioned lobster) itself. Cash bar for mixed drinks.
MACKER MEETING THURSDAY NIGHT:
The first meeting for the 2009 Gus Macker basketball tournament will be Thursday evening (1/15) at 5:15 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus. All members are invited to attend. Co-Chairman for this year are Steve Green and Doug Greenwell.
THIS FRIDAY:
We’ll welcome Jim Lawrence, Director of Operations and Engineering at WGEM to tell us about the upcoming switch from analog television to digital television. The much anticipated switch is scheduled to take place on February 17th but there has been talk recently of delaying it. We’ll hear what Jim has to say about it.
In addition, we’ll have some young folks with us for a few Character Champions presentations. Should be a good one. See you Friday.
FRIDAY LAST:
Thanks to store manager Ron Frillman, we learned about Panera Bread (known as the St. Louis Bread Company in and around the St. Louis area) and their Operation Dough-Nation, which donates money and product to local hunger relief and charitable organizations. Like many Exchangites, I was unaware of this great program. Good stuff. Program Director Gary Peters with the introduction.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
“Governor Blagojevich was impeached by a vote of 114-1. So when did Bud Niekamp join the Illinois House?” President Art Awerkamp’s quick quip on the big news of the day. Funny stuff.
THIS & THAT:
Mayor John Spring with the prayer and Rich Howell leading the pledge. Mayor Spring giving us a little update on our friend John Ortwerth and respectfully requesting our prayers for JO (and his primary caregiver, Joanne)… Mike Troup the guest of Paul Niemann… President Art presented our server, Theresa, with her half of the waitress gift. Would have done it sooner but Theresa got married and took the whole month of December off. Guess the honeymoon is over now… My apology to Lonnie Lemon – misspelled his first name and gave the wrong birthday for him a couple weeks ago. Wow, the old double wammy… President Art thanking Kevin Curran for his outstanding leadership with the Special Olympics Basketball Tournament as well as all those who helped on the day (see Photo of the Week)… President Art also thanking all the good men who helped with the Club Christmas Party… President Art congratulating an absent Ric Hinkamper for his success in officiating in the college play-offs… Jared Haugh twisting tails and making us laugh… Gary Peters making us laugh during his introduction of Ron Frillman… Little controversy with the 50/50 card drawing last week. Elvin Townsend claimed to be the winner but in fact, Rich Howell (who now has more wins than anyone else in the club) had the winning ticket. The $5 was snatched from Elvin and given to Rich. Unfortunately for Rich, he drew the wrong card (queen of diamonds) moments later. Nice Elvin, very nice. Dick Wentura, it is now your job to verify Elvin’s ticket from here out. Pot is nearing the $350 mark… Look for President Art to brief us on the goings on of the 1/12 board meeting this week… That's all for now, 'til next time, may God’s love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
