Program of Service
On a National Basis, the principle areas of Exchange’s Program of Services are Youth, Americanism, Community Service and Exchange’s National Project, the Prevention of Child Abuse. The Exchange Club of Quincy sponsors a wide range of activities to improve our community, help the disadvantaged and encourage good American citizenship.
Among the projects sponsored by the Exchange Club of Quincy are:
Youth
· Youth of the Month and Youth of the Year, honoring three high school seniors each from Quincy Notre Dame and Quincy Senior High Schools.
· The Bud Willer Accepting the Challenge of Excellence (ACE) Award, honoring a high school senior who has overcome a major disability in his or her life.
· Character Champions, recognizing schools, boosters, coaches and students who exhibit character off the field of competition as well as on it.
· The hearing impaired class of Quincy Public Schools.
· Special Olympics
Americanism
· GIVEAKIDAFLAGTOWAVE annually passing out nearly 8,000 American flags to the young and young at heart during Quincy’s Dogwood Parade and Flag Day Park Band Concert.
· Installation of Freedom Shrines at prominent public locations, displaying over 30 historically significant documents from our country's past.
· Display of a giant 30’x50’ American flag at public events.
· So Proudly We Hail, recognizing individuals and businesses that regularly fly the colors of the United States of America.
· One Nation Under God, an annual breakfast to say thank-you to the men and women who serve our country in the armed forces.
· Get out the Vote, a program to encourage our community to participate in their right and responsibility as a citizens.
Community Service
· Adopt-A-Grandparent, a nationally recognized program, started in Quincy, which teams elementary school students with nursing home residents. Monthly visits and annual parties have created long-lasting friendships.
· The Book of Golden Deeds, annually awarded to an individual, nominated by the community, for a lifetime of service.
· Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, recognizing the men and women of area law enforcement agencies who put their lives on the line to protect all of us.
Prevention of Child Abuse
· GIVEAKIDACHANCE, another Quincy original, providing clothing and stuffed toys for children who have been removed from dangerous situations and placed in foster care. Annually, the Club also provides a Christmas party and gifts and a summer swim party for children in foster care.
