The Exchange Club of Quincy, Illinois
Week of July 18:
THIS FRIDAY:
Back at Tony’s for the first meeting (at least that he will be attending) of the President Art Awerkamp administration. We’ll welcome newsman Bob Gough to the podium. Bob, as many of the you know, runs the business/website QuincyNews.org. We’ll learn about the brief history of the business, what it does, and where Bob thinks it can go in the future. Guaranteed to be a good.
FRIDAY LAST:
Super turn out, great meal, and a good look at
Game Masters. The
locally owned (Steve Brink and Don
Taylor) business will celebrate its fifth
anniversary in October and is now under the supervision
of Exchangite Perry Terwelp. (Perry started
about three to four weeks ago.) Game Master
employees 35 people and is much more than just
a hunting and fishing shop.
You name it and they have it –
or will find and get it
for you. Did I mention food? Thursdays from 11-3 you can enjoy
a buffet and on Friday nights, eat prime rib done up
right. Chris Hogge is the chef and if Chris is cooking, you can bet it
will be good. Nice to hear from Perry, Jerry
Taylor, Doug Alexander, and Charles Whitcomb. We appreciated the
door prizes as well. Good stuff!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
“Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh! Dang it!” Steve Peters reaction after EVERY
door prize number called that didn’t match his. The aaaaaghs and
grousing got a little louder each time. Dude just cracks me (and a lot of
others too) up! If I’m not mistaken, Steve will be our tail twister this
week. That’s always fun.
THIS & THAT:
Mike Lavery with the prayer and Jerry Ebbing
leading the pledge… New Quincy Superintendent of Schools, Lonny Lemon
the guest of the aforementioned Mr. Lavery. Look for a first reading
on Lonny this Friday. Good to have Lonny back in town and ready to join us
– assuming he passes the tough admission process our
club is known for… Roger Schaefer informing
us of a Slim Sommerville sighting. Roger says Slim was out walking with
the assistance of a walker and his wife. Please keep the former tail
twister and popcorn man in your prayers… Our thanks to Elvin Townsend
for shining the Exchange Club bell. Looks
great! This has become
a tradition by Elvin each year as a new president takes over and we do
appreciate what you do Elvin… Bruce
Broemmel twisting tails and doing a good job of
collecting for the widows and orphans fund... Many
thanks to Gary Peters for stepping up (as usual) to chair publicity for Smoke on
the River… With 1st
Vice President Kevin Curran running the meeting, business partner and close
friend Dave Rees took care of the 50/50. Thanks, Dave… Rich
Zeidler had the right ticket but picked the wrong card (queen of clubs).
Pot climbing over the $325.00 mark… Look for President Art to fill
us in on the goings on at the July board meeting conducted this past Monday…
We’ll probably hear a report or two about the National
Convention held down in St. Louis last weekend as well. Looking forward to
it… That's all for now, 'til next time,
take care!
...and a lot that isn't
